Velvet

Velvet faux or friend?

Velvet has been around for a very log time, due to its expensive nature it was traditionally worn by nobility back in the day and then eventually made its way into mainstream fashion that tends to circulates in and out of trend.

just a casual stroll in the woods......

Velvet is a woven tufted  fabric, with a short dense pile that is very lustrous and soft, it has the ability to pick up light and add shadow to a surface depending on what direction the weft is going. Velvet essentially has the ability to create movement or give the illusion of movement on the body, this is why it can be tricky to wear, like fur it can add to your body making it look bigger.

When choosing velvet pieces to add to my wardrobe I usually tend to stick with upper body, like a cami, blazer, dress (depending on the cut) or sweater and accessories. My trick to wearing velvet is by picking it up in a small busy pattern, this will distract the eye creating an optical illusion making you look smaller!

Because real velvet is very expensive opt for velveteen, it has a somewhat similar appearance and most people cant tell the difference! I've add a few of my favorite Velveteen pieces below ! my jacket is velveteen, can you tell the difference?
